I may be out of my mind, but a few days ago I decided to play devil’s advocate and argue that high gas prices are actually good for us. Sure, in the short term it’s causing a lot of problems including helping push the fast forward button on driving us into a recession. However, it is also getting a lot of attention for alternative fuel technology and the major auto manufacturers are certainly taking notice. They don’t have any choice – their cash cow SUVs are on the verge of becoming extinct – a relic of the cheap gas era. These days everybody wants vehicles that get better mileage, or don’t use gas at all. I’ve seen plenty of cool vehicles including hydrogen powered, electric, and even air powered vehicles.

Writing a good research grant proposal is not easy. There are some criteria for good Research Grant Writing. The most obvious thing to do is to read the advice offered by the funding agency. Successful grant writing involves the proper combination of many processes; the searching for data and resources, the writing and packaging of the proposal, the planning, the submission of the proposal to a funder and the follow-up. The most important part of the grant is the ‘Case for Support’. This case persuades or fails to persuade the funding agency of the funding body about the importance and the value of the proposal.

Did you know that Airsoft guns can shoot paintballs? Neither did my husband. When I told him about these cheap paintball guns I had found online, he was shocked when I mentioned the name Airsoft. In fact, he didn’t believe me. I had to look up the information and read it to him before he believed what I was saying. He told me that the Airsoft guns he knew about shot BBs only and that they travelled at really high velocities. Turns out, the paintballs travel at similar high velocities and are only meant to be used for marking targets.
