Chiricahua National Monument – Willcox, Arizona. Can you envision a forest of rocks? Truly a forest of rock! Then you need to visit the Chiricahua (pronounced cheer-i-cow-ah) means wild turkey. By the mid 1900’s most of the turkeys were gone and in 2033 Gould’s wild turkeys were released back into Chiricahua Mountains by the Arizona Game and Fish Department and the National Wild Turkey Federation (yes, there is one.) As with most creeks in Arizona, the creeks run in spring during snow melt and late summer during the monsoon, otherwise the beds are dry. Everyone in my life knows that I am a gay woman, and they have all become very loving toward me about it. At first, people were weird about it and could not understand why I would feel the way that I do about love. It has been a while since everyone found out, and things have just gotten better. I tried to introduce some of my great friends to the author Shamim Sarif and her books. I am hoping that they will be inspired by the love stories, and be able to understand me a little better than they could before.

When you listen to a song which contains rap lyrics, most often you will have to listen very closely. The male and female artists speak words at a pace that is sometimes hard to understand if you only listen passively. Once you focus on the words, you then realize that they are telling a story. A story about life. A story about love. A story about family. Even a story about lipstick popping. Nevertheless, the music and lyrics appeal to a broad audience in the United States and even throughout the world. It is amazing at what a few words expressed to a musical beat can do.
