When I was getting married the first thing that I wanted to do was surprise my fiancée with the house of our dreams. Of course that would mean having to spend half a million which I didn’t have so a humble tree bedroom suburb choice was the next best thing. Picking the right home I knew there was a missing element. I remember that my fiancée wanted an outdoors fire place for us to have cozy evenings in the backyard. The contractor that I hired mentioned that they didn’t have the expertise for this so I was on my own. I decided to make one for myself and I did the research. Thankfully I found a website. I was relieved with all the Do-it-yourself information that they offered when it came to outdoor fireplace plans and accessories. When I surprised my fiancée with our home, I immediately drove her attention to a humble red brick fire place in our patio, neatly engraved with our initials. She told me that it was the best place in the house the most romantic gift she had ever received in her life.

The person who has the most power in any performance is not the person on stage. Granted, if everything goes well it is the performer that the people leave thinking about. They will talk about what he or she said or sang, how well they presented themselves on stage, and how they had the audience in the palm of their hand. Without a doubt, the most important person in the room was not the performer but the person who was performing at the sound board. My mom knew how to play piano by ear. She played great, but couldn’t read a lick of music. She could play all parts of a song, even using the piano pedals, after hearing it only one time. Today, there are instructors who teach how to play piano by ear. There is, however, one thing to consider if you want to play by ear. That is, do you have an ear? I don’t. I can’t sing “Mary Had A Little Lamb” without totally messing it up. To play well by ear, you will want to first train your ear, or your mind, to hear the right notes and recognize which ones sound well together. Then you will be able to duplicate and create beautiful music by ear.

A lot of people have trouble justifying the purchase of a high quality microphone and I can understand this concern. There are many reasons why you shouldn’t buy a professional microphone. On reason is if your primary use will be for use with a computer for things as simple as chat programs or simple voice transcriptions. Quality is not important here. Get a cheap us computer mic and you will be set. However if you use your computer music related projects and use programs like Propellerhead’s Reason, then you are looking to make professional sound quality music and you need the best microphone you can get. Once you have a high quality mic you can also use it for situations that don’t require it and spoil yourself.

It doesn’t matter how smart you are, it always pays to be a little smarter. One aspect of intelligence that can be improved easily is memory.
Many people assume the memory cannot be improved, and that you are stuck with the memory power you were born with. In fact, memory improvement techniques have been around for centuries. The Romans used such techniques to help them remember very long speeches which they often recited from memory.
After the Renaissance and into the modern age, more techniques and tricks were developed. Common methods include the Loci Method, where you mentally attach objects to places you know well and the many forms of the Peg Method, where you attach items mentally to images, numbers, etc.
The most famous memory techniques are probably those used by performers who memorize the order of decks of cards. But the truth is that anyone can use memory techniques to their advantage.
