Coolangatta the real surfers paradise
January 24th, 2008
Coolangatta on the gold coast has become the real surfer’s paradise on Queensland’s Gold Coast due to the inadvertent development of the "super bank" on Queensland’s Gold coast in the late nineties. The superbank was formed by the local government’s sand pumping dredging efforts in tweed river which pushed the sand around the corner in the Coolangatta point breaks joining snapper rocks, Greenmount, rainbow bay and Kirra and creating every surfers dream break a fast barrelling warm water sand bottom point break that literally reels for hundreds. The downside of this perfection is that the line-ups have become ridiculously crowded with hundreds of surfers descending on the break at any sign of a decent swell. Its also now common for keen Sydney surfers to watch the weather maps studiously and if they see a cyclone forming jump online and book cheap flights and cheap Coolangatta hotels and put together a hit and run mission to "Cooly" to try and snag some super bank barrels’.
