Different Testers

I have seen many different types of cable being installed. It seems that every one of them uses a different tester. What is the difference between a fluke cable tester and a fiber optic one? Does it have to do with which company you are going through, or does it have more to do with the specific equipment? I am wanting to know these things so that I can make the proper decisions for my own cable needs. I want to be able to understand all of the terminology, so that I will understand the whole process as it is being done.
