silver cufflinks — don’t try to clean them yourself!

January 13th, 2008

If you own a set of silver cufflinks, don’t try to clean them yourself. For one thing you may scratch the surface of the metal and/or any precious stones. Some types of cleansers are extremely harsh and can remove the finish from the surface of the metal. What can you do then? The best recommendation that I can give you is this: if your cufflinks are in need of cleaning, take them to your local jeweler — they can examine them and will know exactly which type of cleaning agent will be best to use on your set. Another bonus is that if your cufflinks have gemstones your jeweler can double check to make sure than the stones are not coming loose in the mountings. They will also be able to make any other necessary repairs as well.
