What is grid computing?

June 12th, 2009

Grid computing is very interesting. in the past you would put a website on a Web server. Then hosting companies arose to put multiple websites on a Web server.  when you hosted at a hosting company you were added to one server and other websites were on the same server.

The problem is that one other website may crash the server you are on. Then your site goes down and it was not your fault. Even though there are possibly hundreds if not thousands of other servers yours is the one that went down.

In many cases you just want an application to run and instead of running on just one server it would be best to run on many. By running on many computers you have achieved grade computing. Instead of having one incredibly expensive computer such as a supercomputer you can now run that same application on multiple computers in a great. Each computer does not have to be a supercomputer and the overall cost is much less expensive. For individual hosting be sure to get a discount using a godaddy hosting promo code and use the number one website hosting company.
