Why is debt consolidation so popular?

With today’s financial markets weakening and more and more homes going into foreclosure, debt consolidation is a more important subject than it ever has been before. Many people have had their debts consolidated into one convenient payment in the past, many people are starting to do it now and indeed even more will have their own debts consolidated in the future, as well. Some go to a professional individual or service to consolidate their debts for them, while others sit down, do all the research and homework themselves and then come up with a game plan to attack the situation head on.
