Does this work for half siblings?

I really don’t know much of anything about DNA testing, but I want to learn more. I am interested in finding out if I am related to some people who my mother claims are my father’s other family. I never met my father and don’t really know if my mother was telling the truth. I recently heard about a sibling DNA test, and I am wondering whether this works for half siblings. If I had one of my possible half sisters take the test with me would it be able to prove we had the same father? I would be interested to find out more about this.
