My mother is suffering from short term memory loss

I believe that my mother is suffering from short term memory loss, though she would never in a million years admit it. I think the thought of it simple scares her beyond imagination due to the fact both of her parents suffered from alzheimer’s. This was a very sad thing for the entire family to watch, but especially for my mother, who was an only child. To have her parents not recognize her or call her another name was devastating. Is there anything you can do to help a person who is beginning to show signs of memory loss or is this a natural course of events we will have to learn to live with and deal with?
