Periodontal Disease Considered Any Form Of Ill Health
May 29th, 2008
For ordinary people, a more common scenario was the wholesale pulling of teeth at the first sign of gum disease. For instance, periodontal disease is commonly said to be responsible for 70 percent of the teeth lost after childhood. In the broadest sense, periodontal disease can be considered any form of ill health affecting the periodontium–the tissues that surround and support the teeth. You need regular examinations performed by your oral health professional to assess your periodontal health and determine if periodontal disease is active in your mouth. The appearance of the gums is noted; infected gums appear red and Periodontal probe measures pockets and x-rays to view bone loss. That is, patients typically have no symptoms until the disease has progressed very far.
