Profiting From Avian Flu Panic
June 1st, 2009
I was reminded of a story my parents used to read to me as a child when I was inundated with paranoid segments on pandemic diseases. I think it was called Chicken Little, and was about how all the barn animals caught onto the misconception that The Sky Was Falling because the chicken had felt a piece of the roof fell onto its head. There have been cases of the Avian Flu, but the number is very low. Consider that number death from the disease in a percentage of the entire population. That is a pretty low number. More people die of other flues in much larger numbers. We need to keep our logic in place and analyze the information we receive from a media that profits from bad news.
