Studying For A Degree

February 21st, 2008

My colleague in the office told me two years ago: ‘I’m really tired of being an accountant, I’m fed up with it, I no longer have the patience to do the bureaucratic work accountancy now requires, there’s no charm in it left for me.’ Naturally, I asked about plans for the future, if giving up a 30-year career was already established. ‘I’ve applied for university, I want a counseling degree. Rather than going crazy with my work, I prefer teaching myself how to stay calm and help my colleagues. In 3 years I’ll have a degree and later I’ll study for an M.A.; with the money I saved up from bookkeeping I’ll open a private practice and focus on individuals in the accounting business.’ She’s only one year away from fulfilling her project, she has found her way towards happiness. Career shift is no longer a predicament, it is a dream come true and the best stress reliever as it seems.
