What To Expect With Laser Eye Surgery

September 27th, 2008

Laser eye surgery is sometimes called LASIK surgery that allows a person to get rid of glasses or contact lenses. One has to carefully weigh the benefits and risks with laser eye surgery. A knife cuts a flap in the cornea and exposes the stroma in which part of it is destroyed by laser, changing the shape of the cornea. The flap is replaced and the surgery is over. The patient remains awake as a numbing drop is given prior to laser eye surgery. A protective shield will be placed over the eye after laser eye surgery to prevent accidental scratching of the eye. No swimming or being in the hot tub is allowed for eight weeks and no wearing of make up or playing sports. Undergoing lasik laser eye surgery takes patience and self control but the end result is well worth it.
