How Do People Who Live in the Outback Get Medical Care?

February 23rd, 2009

When I was little I lived about an hour away from anywhere, so whenever we had a medical emergency it was quite a rush to get whoever was hurt to the doctor or a hospital. It can be a little worrying. How do people who live in the outback australia get medical care? From what I understand they can live even further away from towns with services. What happens if one of them gets injured, or has a heart attack? Are they just taking a big risk, or is there some special kind of health services available to people who live in these areas?
