Meet the Neighbors
March 14th, 2008
When you move or relocate to a new area, one of the first things you should do before you even unpack those boxes is meet the neighbors. We’ve all seen the movies and perhaps old commercials where the friendly woman from next door took time out of her life to bake you that pie from scratch and bring it over, welcoming you into the neighborhood. Well, while that may not be seen as often today, it is still an important part of communication and networking with those around you. Meeting your neighbor goes way beyond the proverbial handshake and "hello". It is an opportunity to know a little about those who live around you as well as to introduce yourself and your family so that they know you. It’s about building caring, lasting relationships and fostering some sort of understanding. Everyday, more and more people are choosing to be strangers. They don’t want the hassle of having to deal with their "nosy neighbor". Instead, they would rather be able to get from their front door to their car without having to interact with anyone. However, when there’s a problem at home, and you need to talk, or if you get locked out of your house or a pet runs away or someone breaks into your home, who will you have to turn to who is only a door away?
