Top Destinations

Since I have never traveled to the UK before I am worried that if I try to book my travel on my own, that I will not have a quality experience. I want to visit all the top destinations but I can not afford to pay the to prices. I have heard it said that you can find really great value in last minute london hotels but what happens if I get there and there is no occupancy left?  I want to see the sites and get the experience of the big city but I do not want to pay the big city prices.
