Two Types Of Spouse Visas

January 15th, 2008

If you are a non-US citizen who marries a US citizen, you are able to apply for citizenship within America. This will grant you a spouse visa. Now, there are two types of Spouse Visas in the US that you need to know about – the K-1 spouse visa and the K-3 spouse visa. The distinction between them is very simple. If you get married in the US with the US citizen, then you will apply for permanent citizenship through a K-1 spouse visa, and if you get married to the US citizen within your own country, then you will apply for permanent citizenship through the K-3 spouse visa. The K-3 spouse visa has the benefit of a zero waiting period. But the US partner has to do some paperwork to prove his/her US citizenship.
