Children’s shows and the use of stock footage.

July 23rd, 2008

Children’s programming today uses a lot of different stock footage. The one thing that filmmakers and producers have learned about children’s shows is that there is a need for repetition. Children learn from something that stays the same and that they see every time they watch the show. This is a main reason why a lot of the characters in children’s shows, wear the same outfits and their hair is always cut the same. For example, on children’s shows, there usually is a theme song that always gets played sometime during the show. Instead of re-taping that same show all the time, they will use the stock footage of the first taping and plug it in the current show when needed.
