Is it Possible to Get Help with Child Support?

My ex husband can’t afford to send us child support right now, and I don’t want to go after him for it since I know that if there was any way he could give it to us he would. He really loves his kids, and we are still friends. Is there any other way we can get some help with child support? I am hoping there is some sort of organization that helps out families like us when money is extra tight. I don’t quite qualify for most government programs, but I am still having trouble making ends meet each month.
