How to Improve My Credit Score

March 20th, 2009

Many people today are asking themselves the question how to improve my credit score. You can’t watch the news at all these days without hearing about another bank failure or another federal bailout of either a financial institution or a corporation. There is so much economic upheaval that it is affecting virtually every company and every individual in the country. If you have less than stellar credit, now is a good time to work on improving your credit score. The first step in doing this is to obtain a free copy of your credit report (everyone is entitled to one free copy per year) and review every item on it annually. From there, you can prioritize which items are the most important to address first. The way credit reports work is that if you inquire about a derogatory item and request that the company that recorded it proves that it is indeed true, they must respond with documentation or say that they cannot or will not document it which then obligates the credit reporting agency to remove that derogatory item. This is one of the quickest and easiest ways to improve your credit score.
