Qualities and Elements of a Mountain Climbing Rope

A Mountain Climbing Rope has elements and qualities that you need to consider when you are choosing your rope. Core refers to the inner twisted core strands. Sheath refers to the protective cover that adds strength and shock absorption. Bicolor refers to the change in weave pattern that differentiates the halves of the rope. Suppleness refers to the quality of being handled more easily. Dry treatments are coatings applied to core fibers and the sheath to make the rope water resistant. Falls refer to the number of UIAA-described falls the rope can handle before failing. Dynamic elongation is the amount of stretching the rope undergoes after a fall.
