application performance testing: just how well is it working

January 12th, 2008

If you are contemplating the purchase and installation of a computer application in your company, can you really believe the claims of the vendor regarding its performance? Can you really afford to take a chance to install software that performs so poorly that it impacts your entire operation? This is why your technical staff should perform application performance testing — before you deploy a software package throughout your company. The software package can be installed on a few computers, or perhaps within a single department, rather than throughout your entire organization — then your technical staff can monitor the performance of this software and determine its effects on other aspects of the systems operation. If it turns out that there are problems with the performance of a particular application package, you can approach the vendor to work out a possible solution.
