Is It Possible to Get a Free Website?

I would love to put up a website, but I am worried that this will be too expensive for me. Is there any way to get a free website? I seem to recall that there were some places you could go for this, though they are somewhat limited in what you can do with them depending on the company you go through. Can anyone tell me where I can find out more about this so that I can figure out where I should go for the sort of website I would like to put up? I am taking a website design class and I want to practice.
