The importance of document styles

March 17th, 2008

What are document styles? According to a Microsoft word tutorial that I have been reading, document styles are simply a way of defining the appearance of certain elements on each page of text. For example, you can define a particular type of heading by giving it a name, and specifying the font type and size, as well as other attributes such as it being in bold, italic, etc. The advantage of using document styles is that you can prepare a document with a consistent appearance throughout the entire document — headings will always have a certain appearance, body text will always have a certain appearance, etc., which will not vary at all throughout the entire document.
