Cyprus- Recent History

August 2nd, 2008

Anyone interested in Cyprus Holidaysshould know that until recently, the crossing points from the North Into the South (and vice versa) was not very easy. All personnel wishing to cross were subjected to questioning, and their papers thoroughly checked.

In recent years, the Southern Republic became a EU member. This brought certain privileges because the South is now a member of the ‘club’. There is every evidence that Turkey, too, wishes to join the EU. For those reasons, tensions between the two halves have greatly reduced.

It is now much easier to cross from one half into another. Tourists can now easily include both the North and the South in the same trip to Cyprus.
